Tower C (by Zaha Hadid Architects)
One of the audacious skyscraper designs of the future is Tower C developed by the Zaha Hadid Architects bureau. It will be built in Shenzhen, China in 2027. According to the design, this innovative building will create a new public area. Tower C features two towers, the tallest being 400 m high. The hallmark of the high-rise is its open public area. The building will house offices, hotels, and art galleries. Its design includes terraced glass that facilitates air circulation.
The Towers in Miami (by Foster + Partners)
The Foster + Partners bureau has plans to build skyscrapers in New York and Toronto. By 2023, Foster + Partners also intends to build two interconnected towers 320 m high in Miami. The structure is designed as a parallelepiped flared at the bottom. The Towers will contain restaurants, stores and art galleries, as well as green areas.
Skyscrapers in Toronto, Canada (by Frank Gehry)
In the near future, Toronto will witness the rising of skyscrapers designed by the famed Frank Gehry. He has gained international renown with such unusual projects as The Dancing House in Prague and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. In 2012, he designed a cluster of three skyscrapers for Toronto, later amending the initial project. One of the skyscrapers is expected to be 298 m tall, another 262 m. The building is designed to look like superimposed parallelepipeds of different shapes. Inclusions of glimmering steel will provide the skyscrapers’ highlight. The appearance of the structure will change depending on the viewpoint. The inside of the skyscrapers is slated for apartments, an art gallery and the campus of the Ontario College of Art & Design University (OCAD).
Super-skinny skyscraper in Toronto (by Herzog & de Meuron and Quadrangle)
Another unusual-looking building planned to be constructed in Toronto is a super-skinny, 324 m tall, 87-storied skyscraper. Its appearance invokes an image of a “needle” piercing the sky. Designers at the Herzog & de Meuron Architekten bureau believe that this super-skinny tower would benefit from panoramic windows. Its bottom 16 floors will house offices, with the rest slated for apartments, except for the penthouse restaurant.
Torch Tower in Tokyo (by Sou Fujimoto Architects)
Torch Tower stands out among exotic skyscraper designs. It was created by Sou Fujimoto, an architect and founder of his own bureau. The high-rise is expected to be built in Tokyo by 2028 together with Mitsubishi Jisho Sekkei. Torch Tower will be the tallest building in Japan. According to Fujimoto’s design, the building will be topped with a 390 m high superstructure that looks like a crown. The skyscraper, filled with greenery, will be home to offices, stores, a hotel and an observation deck.
Bestseller Tower in Brande (by Dorte Mandrup)
By the year 2023, a small Danish town of Brande will have its own impressive 320 m tall skyscraper. It was designed by Dorte Mandrup, an architect and founder of her own studio. The building stands to be the tallest in Western Europe and is intended to become the headquarters of Bestseller A/S, a clothing company. The designers see its concept as a blend of two worlds, urban and rural. Architecturally, the tower will be complemented with several low-rise buildings, all with planted rooftops.
Vista Tower in Chicago (by Studio Gang)
A grandiose project is expected to come to completion in the near future. At the end of 2021, Chicago will have another skyscraper, the 348 m tall Vista Tower designed by Studio Gang architects. The building will consist of multistoried interconnected towers. Vista Tower will feature an undulating façade clad in petrol blue glass. The “curvilinear” appearance of the building harmonizes with the location, the bank of Lake Michigan and the nearby Chicago river. The water reflecting in the skyscraper’s glass creates a rippling effect, according to the architects. The tower will have 400 condominium residences and a hotel.
The Spiral in New York (by BIG)
Many believe that New York has the highest skyscraper density in the world. Bjarke Ingels, a Danish architect and the founder of BIG, decided to contribute, too. Together with his colleagues, he designed the 314 m tall, 65-storied Spiral. This building is to become the headquarters of coronavirus vaccine maker Pfizer, and is slated for opening in 2022. The skyscraper will be shaped like a spiral, but a blocky, chopped-up, stepped-back spiral instead of a flowing one. Several levels will have landscaped terraces and recreation areas. According to Ingels, this design is reminiscent of a ziggurat, a religious building of Ancient Mesopotamia.
