Biblioteca Degli Alberi is an urban park located on the territory of one of the districts of Milan in Italy. This place serves as an urban connector, cultural campus, and a botanic garden. The area does not look ordinary. There are fields of irregular shape intersected by paths, forest edges, and many other interesting things that the eye can linger on. The main goal of the project was to unite citizens. It is a place where to play sports as well as find a secluded corner for meditation and contemplation of nature.
The Folds by Atelier Scale
The Folds is a community playground constructed on the territory of the Chinese city of Hangzhou in Jintan District. Architects from the Atelier Scale group revised their view on children's recreation and focused on the development of the imagination of children of different ages. The studio deliberately minimized the use of playground equipment, believing that the folding landform can encourage children to explore the space with their hands and feet.
Jiangyin Greenway by Brearley Architects + Urbanists
The Jiangyin Greenway is a 6km segment of a bicycle and pedestrian path that weaves through the city's park network located in the Chinese district of Wuxi. Thessaloniki's Monumental Axis by Makridis Associates
Makridis Associates has regenerated a Roman-era city square in Thessaloniki, Greece that pays homage to the archaeological sites of the surrounding area. This is a part of the historical axis of the city, which was previously a noisy and always congested road. Makridis Associates, which is responsible for all the restoration work, has turned this place into a comfortable, beautiful, and functional recreation and tourist display area. Moreover, the architects carefully restored some archaeological monuments, successfully integrating them into modern design. The urban space is distinguished by its use of continuous curves and tapering paths which expand into and contrast with wider rest areas.
Domino Park by James Corner Field Operations
US studio James Corner Field Operations has created a public park around the former Domino Sugar Factory in North Williamsburg, New York. The park combines previously incompatible things: industrial heritage and recreation in the era of the coronavirus. The East River has become a zoned-out place for relaxation. The lawn is marked with white circles that help people maintain a social distance and relax safely. More than 30 objects of industrial heritage were saved and restored: rails, containers, syrup tanks, etc. The park is so attractive that about 2.5 million people have already visited it since its opening.
