The speech delivered by the Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev became one of the most prominent events during the 52nd Munich Security Conference which was held on February, 12-14. The main part of his talk was focused on issues regarding relations between Moscow and the West. The parties reached a new level of the Cold War, Medvedev noted.
Russian Prime Minister believes that the so-called doctrine of containment which Western countries apply in relation to Russia can lead to unpredictable effects. The head of the Russian government was sure that the countries should cultivate relations with each other and try to prevent the Third World War. In his speech, the politician stressed the importance of cooperation and expressed a desire to avoid confrontation.
Additionally, Dmitry Medvedev met German Minister for Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Munich Security Conference. The policymakers discussed the current global conditions.
During the meeting, Russian Prime Minister expressed his hope for realization of the Nord Stream 2 project. He was sure that attempts of some Western countries to politicize this project wouldn’t stop its further realization. Medvedev discussed this issue with German businessmen, Finnish Prime Minister and his Austrian colleagues.
The Chair of the Russian Government met Premier of Bavaria Horst Seehofer, thanked him for his hospitality and expressed his readiness for further cooperation.
